Declutter closet12/11/2023 If there were 5-10 wonderful choices, it would be super easy to find something good to eat. What you really want to do is be present for your date, to talk and connect, but instead you are stuck trying to decide what to eat. If we have 325 choices for outfits, the weight of this decision making process is going to be similar to going on a date and then having 325 menu item choices. Now that we have all of our clothes beautifully laid out on the bed, it is time to sort and cull down our inventory. We will come back to the pile as soon as we are firm about the clothes we are keeping in our closet. So let’s take all of our energy in one direction and tackle the clothes on the bed not on the floor. One reason people shut down when they are decluttering is because there are simply too many decisions. We are simply taking them out of the decision process. We are not making any decision about what to do with these clothes yet. If you could not answer yes to the 2 keys questions for decluttering your closet, then put the clothes in a pile on the ground. If No, Put in Pile on Floor (Tackle Pile Later) And try to get colors that coordinate more. You can see your wardrobe in a literal snap shot. You can also keep this picture with you for when you go shopping. Fun tip is to take an overhead picture of all of your piles, look at the picture what colors do you notice? Any piles seem too big? Sometimes we notice more from a picture. This way we can come back and see if we have 20 graphic tee’s or 15 pairs of pants. If you can say: Yes, I like this piece of clothing and yes, this looks good and feels good on me, then fold that piece of clothing neatly on the bed in piles. If Yes, Fold in Beautiful Piles on Bed by Category We will come back to this pile, so don’t stress about what we are going to do with this pile of clothes. Other items you can toss on the ground are pieces that are just worn out, stained, out of season or currently just don’t fit. If either of these is a no, put the clothes on the ground. Maybe seeing a couple of comfortable, feel good outfits hanging in your closet will increase your likelihood of getting dressed in the morning. So if you are not putting on regular clothes, give this method a shot. My best days come when I put on clothes and feel like a functioning human. While you will find me in lounge clothes throughout the day sometimes, those are NOT my best days. Our goal is to get dressed as quickly as possible in the morning. Leave out your workout clothes, Pjs, paint clothes and super fancy outfits. Only take out your everyday or weekend clothes. Pull all of your clothes out of the closet and take them off the hangers. This will make all the difference for your brain to see less clutter. Take the time to really make your bed nice, clean and beautiful. So make your bed nice and pretty for a good clean palette for the magic that is to come. It just feels nice to have a clean working space for decluttering your wardrobe.
